Orthodontics is the specialty of dentistry that treats malocclusions, that is, problems in the alignment of the teeth and bone/facial disharmonies.

Aligned teeth
Orthodontic problems can range from a major misalignment of the teeth to malocclusions (bad relationship between the upper and lower jaws), which can be caused by bad dental positions, and for the treatment of these problems we often use fixed appliances, removable appliances, expanders, and extraoral appliances.
The need for orthodontics, can be due to several factors, of which we can highlight:
- Hereditary factors;
- Continued habits (digital sucking and continuous pacifier use);
- Early loss of milk teeth, among other factors.

The use of braces is not exclusively for children, but is increasingly recommended for adults, as it facilitates more complex rehabilitative treatments (rehabilitations with implants and prostheses), making it possible to achieve greater aesthetics, better function, and greater longevity of treatment.
No age limit
The duration of orthodontic treatments can vary according to various factors and can take months or years, but on average they last between 1,5 – 2 years.
There is no age limit to visit the Orthodontist, but the first consultation should be made as early as possible, in childhood and pre adolescence, when the greatest peaks of bone growth occur, and when the desired results are more easily achieved.
