Dental Occlusion

Dental Occlusion

Dental occlusion is the area ofdental medicine that diagnoses, prevents, and treats problems related to malocclusions and temporomandibular dysfunctions, which are problems of the jaw joint.

Most frequent symptoms

  • Pain, discomfort or fatigue of the facial and/or masticatory muscles, headaches, ear and neck pain.
  • Sensation of reduced hearing, dizziness, and tinnitus.
  • Headaches, increased frequency of migraines.
  • Limitations in opening the mouth, blocking, deviation of the jaw, difficulties in chewing and/or clicking when opening and/or closing the mouth.

Causes

  • Trauma to the jaw (for example caused by
    by traffic accident).
  • Joint pathology (e.g. arthritis).
  • Clenching and/or grinding your teeth (bruxism).
  • Muscle tension and emotional tension.

Treatments

The treatment for temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ) involves the elimination of the main causes, which is why medication, drops, physical therapy, postural re-education and muscle chains are often used, and sometimes it is necessary to articulate with the orthodontic treatment, with implantology, aimed at replacing missing teeth, or with orthognathic surgery.

Because we are aware of the importance of occlusion, and that TMJ dysfunction can modify psychosomatic characteristics of the individual, reducing their quality of life, at BeClinique we always seek to restore an ideal dental occlusion in all our rehabilitations.
